Fennel Sweet and Borage Oil

Our favourite oils for the beautiful month of May are Fennel Sweet and Borage. Here are the profiles of these wonderful plants:

Family: Umbelliferae    
Fennel Sweet Essential Oil

Extraction: Seeds

Extraction Method: Steam distillation

Country: Mediterranean, Spain

Chemical Group: Phenol esters

Actions: Aperitif, Analgesic, Antiseptic, Carminative, Depurative, Diuretic, Emenagogue, Expectorant, Stomachic, Vermifuge

Uses: Effective in preventing incisions from being septic or getting infected from tetanus, particularly after surgery, caesarian deliveries and other wounds; makes the gases escape from intestines; helps with irregular, obstructed or painful menstruation; it protects stomach from infections and ulcers, thus ensuring an all-round health of stomach

Blends well with: Sandalwood, Lavender, Geranium and Rose Oil

Contra-indications: Do not use during pregnancy, and on persons suffering from Epilepsy

Borage Oil

Extraction: Seeds

Extraction Method: Pressing

Country: Europe

Chemical Constituents: Fatty acids, in particular gamma linolenic acids (GLA)

Uses: For treating psoriasis, eczema, prematurely aged skin; good for regenerating and stimulating skin cell activity (very penetrating)

Blends well with: Base note essential oils like Sandalwood or Patchouli. Use around 10% only in a massage blend with other carrier oils such as Jojoba, Peach, Almond or Apricot as it is rich in nature 

Contra-indications: Nil
