Our favorite oils for the beautiful month of January are May Chang and Sea Buckthorn. Here are the profiles of these wonderful plants:


Family: Lauraceae  
     
May Chang essential oil
Extraction: Fruit

Extraction Method: Steam distillation

Country: Native to eastern Asia, especially China       

Chemical Group: Geranial, Neral          

Actions: Antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, deodorant, disinfectant, insecticidal and sedative

Uses: Skin care – acne, greasy skin, fungal infections, spots

Digestive system – flatulence, indigestion, nausea

Nervous system – stress-related condition, fatigue       

Blends well with: Bergamot, Benzion, Orange, Cedarwood, Geranium, Mandarin, Tea Tree and Petigrain      

Contra-indications: Possible skin irritant & sensitisation

Extraction Method: Cold Pressed

Country: China and Russia

Chemical Constituents: Main constituents are oleic, palmitic and palmitoleic with significant Vitamin A & E

Uses: Antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, cytophalactic, rubefacient, vulnerary - healing skin injuries, burns, wounds, tissue regeneration

Blends well with: Can be easily added to any base or essential oil blend - a 1% concentration is considered effective and up to 10% concentration have been used without side effects
